Senior Researcher, Energy Systems and Policies Chair in Energy Sector Management, HEC Montréal

Johanne Whitmore is a Senior Researcher at the Chair of Energy Sector Management at HEC Montréal. She is an energy systems and management specialist. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of measures to achieve the energy transition and decarbonization of economies, and the application of circular economy strategies to achieve this. She has been involved in research on these issues for nearly 20 years, and her expertise is used in the private, government and academic sectors. She was vice-president of Transition énergétique Québec’s Stakeholders Table and a member of the scientific committee of the first study measuring the circularity of Quebec’s economy.

She has authored numerous studies, including the annual State of Energy in Quebec. In 2020, she received the distinction of Inspiring Women in Energy from the Electric Power Industry of Quebec. Before joining HEC Montréal, she worked as a Senior Climate and Energy Policy Analyst with the Pembina Institute, focusing on Alberta and federal initiatives. She holds a Master’s degree in Science (environmental geography) from the University of Ottawa and specialized training in Management and Sustainable Development from HEC Montréal.

Quelle place pour l’hydrogène dans la transition énergétique?

Le potentiel de l’hydrogène serait surestimé par le gouvernement fédéral. C’est ce qu’affirme Johanne Whitmore, chercheuse principale à la Chaire de gestion du secteur de l’énergie à HEC Montréal. Madame Whitmore souligne qu’il existe de nombreuses options beaucoup plus efficaces pour atteindre nos objectifs de diminution de GES tant d’un point de vue technique que d’un point de vue économique. Même à long terme, l’hydrogène ne serait pas très prometteur.
